The Pampas-Palmitos River Basin is located in the sub-humid eastern Andes of the Department of Huancavelica, between the Sierras Altas de Apacheta and the High Plains and Ridges of Huaytará. This is another Andean landscape of height, with elevations ranging from 4,000 to 4,700 meters above sea level (meters above sea level) and is dominated by puna grasslands (47%), grasslands of puna in formation (32%), scarcely vegetated (18%), and bofedales (3%) in the valleys and basins of the Pampas and Palmitos rivers, both traversed by the Right of Way (RoW) and draining to the Apurimac Basin.
Among the birds observed in the Pampas-Palmitos Basin, is the Pale Tailed Canastero (Asthenes dorbignyi), categorized as "vulnerable" by Peruvian legislation.
